EQUIPMENT OPERATOR/LABORER-WATER/SEWER
VILLAGE OF MORTON GROVE PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The Village of Morton Grove is seeking a skilled and dependable Equipment Operator-water/sewer to join our Public Works team. This full-time position involves operating a variety of light and heavy equipment to support the maintenance and improvement of Village infrastructure.
Position Summary
The Public Works Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Equipment Operator-Water/Sewer.
This position is classified and paid as an Equipment Operator; however, the primary duties are focused on water and sewer fi operations. The employee will work as part of a field crew performing underground utility maintenance and repairs, including water main breaks, service leaks, sewer repairs, excavation support, and site restoration.
The employee may be assigned to work as a laborer in and around trenches during excavation and utility repair work, depending on the needs of the crew and the job. Equipment operation will also be required as needed.
Salary Range: $69,493 to $89,895 annually
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with benefits including:

Requirements
Key Responsibilities Include:
Operating equipment such as front-end loaders, backhoes, Vactor sewer trucks, dump trucks (CDL B), skid steer, and more.
Performing manual labor including excavation, grading, and infrastructure repairs.
Hauling materials and debris and delivering to designated sites.
Participating in snow removal and ice control operations.
Conducting routine maintenance on equipment and reporting unsafe conditions.
Adhering to all safety and risk management protocols.
The Ideal Candidate…
Has at least one year of experience operating automotive and heavy equipment.
Possesses a valid Class “B” CDL and can respond to emergencies 24/7.
Experience in water and sewer construction or underground utility work.
Experience working around excavations, trench boxes, and utility repairs.
Ability to safely operate Public Works equipment.
Knowledge of basic water and sewer system maintenance.
Strong teamwork, communication, and safety awareness.
Demonstrates strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Is familiar with public works operations and safety procedures.
Has working knowledge of Microsoft Office and can read technical manuals and maps.
Is physically capable of lifting and moving heavy materials and working in varied weather conditions.
