About the Role
We are seeking a Fire Protection Designer to design and develop fire protection systems for industrial, commercial, warehouse, and advanced technology facilities. This role is well suited for someone who produces precise, code-compliant work, follows established design standards closely, and maintains consistent quality across detailed technical projects. The position includes field surveys, system design, permit coordination, and close attention to applicable fire protection codes and documentation requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Design fire sprinkler systems, including wet, dry, preaction, deluge, and special hazards systems, for a range of facility types
- Perform field surveys to gather site conditions and technical information required to complete accurate design work
- Prepare detailed drawings, hydraulic calculations, and seismic bracing calculations using approved design tools and established methods
- Submit drawings for permit, coordinate the plan check process, and address corrections thoroughly and accurately
- Ensure all designs comply with NFPA standards and applicable state and local building codes
- Provide regular, professional communication with internal and external project teams regarding design status, requirements, and revisions
- Collaborate with project managers to support timely, high-quality project delivery across multiple active assignments
Requirements
Required Skills & Abilities
- Strong ability to produce accurate, repeatable, high-quality technical work with close attention to detail
- Comfort working within clearly defined codes, standards, procedures, and documentation requirements
- Ability to manage detailed project work at a steady pace while maintaining consistency across multiple assignments
- Clear, factual communication style suited to technical coordination and permit-related follow-up
- Strong working knowledge of fire suppression system design principles and code-based decision-making
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, AutoSPRINK, and related design software
Other Requirements
- Minimum associate’s degree in computer-aided design/drafting, architecture, construction technology, engineering technology, or a similar field
- Documented training in fire suppression design and/or design application software
- Bachelor’s degree in a similar field is a plus
- Continuing education in fire protection technologies is a plus
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in fire suppression systems design, with demonstrated progression into more complex system designs
- Experience or familiarity with related systems or disciplines such as fire alarm, HVAC, plumbing, low voltage, architectural, or structural design is a plus
- Strong knowledge of NFPA codes and standards
- NICET Level IV certification
- Full-time role based in Los Alamitos, CA; in-office preferred, with remote work considered for the right candidate
- Salary range: $90,000-$110,000 annually
