Description
Assistant or Associate Professor, Engineering Technology (3 positions)
Summary:
The University of Illinois Springfield invites applications for up to three inaugural tenure-track faculty positions (Assistant or Associate Professor, preferred start date January 1, 2027 and latest start date August 16, 2027) in Engineering Technology to launch the Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Technology (BAS-ET), beginning Fall 2027. These positions will form the founding faculty cohort and will collectively deliver the core curriculum, establish the work-based learning sequence with regional employers, and prepare for ABET ETAC accreditation. We are seeking candidates whose expertise spans applied engineering technology. The final composition of the cohort will be shaped by the strength of the applicant pool, with the goal of assembling a team that collectively covers the program's instructional needs. Preferred areas of expertise include automation, robotics, and industrial controls; engineering design, CAD/CAM, and manufacturing systems; systems integration, project management, and applied engineering practice; materials, measurement, and quality systems; and work-based learning coordination and industry partnership development. Significant industry experience is strongly preferred.
These are full-time on-campus tenure-track academic appointments. UIS tenure-system faculty are expected to be available and engaged in the university community, with assigned professional responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and service.
A mix of tenure-system and non-tenure system faculty may comprise this cohort. View the clinical faculty posting: https://uis.csod.com/ux/ats/careersite/1/home/requisition/1288?c=uis

Duties & Responsibilities:
Teaching: Faculty will deliver core coursework in the Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Technology. Teaching assignments will be determined based on each faculty member's expertise and the collective needs of the founding cohort.
Scholarship: Faculty are expected to develop an active program of applied research or scholarly activity appropriate to the discipline of engineering technology. This may include industry-sponsored applied research projects with regional partners; design, development, and evaluation of work-based learning pedagogy and assessment models; scholarship of teaching and learning in engineering technology education; workforce development research in collaboration with employer and community college partners; and contributions to professional societies such as ASEE or ABET. Given the applied nature of the program, scholarship that bridges academic inquiry and industry practice is especially valued. The expectation is that scholarly activity will be productive and sustained, consistent with the standards for tenure and promotion at UIS, while recognizing that the early years of a new program will require significant effort in curriculum development, accreditation preparation, and partnership building.
Service: All faculty are expected to contribute to the development and growth of the BAS-ET program and the School of Applied Engineering through active participation in program-level, college-level, and university service. Service responsibilities include participation in the program's industry advisory board, including development and maintenance of employer relationships for work-based learning placements; community college partnership development, including articulation agreement planning and transfer pathway coordination; ABET ETAC accreditation preparation, self-study documentation, and continuous improvement processes; K-12 pipeline engagement, including support for the techX dual-credit program at the Capital Area Career Center; student recruitment activities, including prospective student outreach, campus visit participation, and community college advising events; and standard college and university committee service as assigned. In the program's early years, service will be weighted toward accreditation preparation and partnership development. As the program matures, faculty service responsibilities will normalize to reflect the standard expectations across the college.college and university committee service as assigned.
