Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is seeking an experienced and dedicated surveyor (Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) preferred) to serveas Surveying and Geomatics Program Director within the School of Engineering. This position provides leadership and oversight for the university’sSurveying and Geomatics Program, ensuring academic excellence, program growth, and alignment with professional standards and industry needs.
The ideal candidate will bring a balance of practical field experience, proven leadership ability, and a genuine passion for teaching and mentoring. TheProgram Director will be an approachable, relatable leader who can effectively connect with students, faculty, and professionals while guiding theprogram’s continued development and success.
The successful candidate will also teach courses in the Surveying and Geomatics program within the Department of Construction of the School ofEngineering. Teaching assignments may include online, evening, weekend, and satellite courses. Summer assignments are available subject toenrollment and funding.
The successful candidate will:
Provide strategic leadership and daily management for the Surveying and Geomatics Program, including curriculum oversight, assessment, scheduling,and program development.
Teach undergraduate and certificate program courses in surveying and geomatics, integrating practical field knowledge with classroom instruction.
Mentor and advise students, fostering their academic and professional growth.
Recruit, supervise, and support faculty and staff within the program.
Build and maintain strong partnerships with industry, professional organizations, and community stakeholders.
Ensure the program meets and maintains accreditation standards and reflects current technologies and practices in the surveying profession.
Manage program budgets, resources, and marketing/outreach efforts to promote enrollment and visibility.
Represent SIUE’s Surveying Program at professional conferences, regional events, and advisory boards.
Requirements
Applicants must have a Baccelaurate degree (B.S.) in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field with approximately 5 years ofexperience and active State licensure in Surveying and Geomatics.
Applicants must have significant field experience in land surveying.
Applicants must have demonstrated managerial or supervisory experience.
Applicants must have clearly demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, mentoring, and engaged service to the program.
Applicants must have demonstratable knowledge of modern surveying equipment, GPS, scanning, sonar equipment, and pre and post processing ofdata collection software, with the ability to transmit data into AutoCAD and MicroStation, and other software.
Applicants must demonstrate that they have knowledge, skill, and demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
Active participation in professional surveying associations (e.g., IPLSA, NSPS, MSPS).
At least two years as a distinct leader.
Skill in mentoring and advising students.
Skill in field-based learning.
Skill in on-line and certificate program learning.
Experience with program accreditation, curriculum design, or academic assessment.
Readiness to cooperate on shared responsibilities in a department with a commitment to collaboration.
