- Plan Examiner/Building Inspector
Description
The Plan Examiner/Building Inspector will perform inspections of residential and commercial buildings to ensure compliance to building codes, federal/state codes and Village of Wheeling ordinances as related to electrical mechanical and structural work. The position will investigate complaints related to unsafe conditions, recommend action and follow-up to ensure compliance, and testify in adjudication and housing court as required. The position requires extensive public contact requiring tact, courtesy, and clear and concise communication skills to articulate explanations of policies and procedures.
Requirements
Requires a High School diploma or GED, vocational training or technical training in construction-related fields. A minimum of five (5) years of experience as a journeyman or supervisory experience in the building construction industry; an equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered. Will require International Code Council (ICC) Certification within one (1) year of employment in the following capacities: Residential Building Inspector, Building Plans Examiner, Residential Plans Examiner.
