Position Overview
The Senior Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) position is a full-time role responsible for providing fire protection engineering design, and consulting services on an extensive across a wide range of project types, including:
- Industrial and manufacturing facilities
- Advanced technology and R&D spaces
- Warehouse and distribution centers
- Commercial buildings
The Senior Fire Protection Engineer reports to the Manager of Fire Protection Engineering, and collaborates with owner representatives, Insurance professionals, Senior Fire Protection Engineers, Designers, Subject Matter Experts, other discipline design professionals, and Carine project managers.
Key Responsibilities
Professional (approx. 85% of time, billable)
- Perform field investigations and site surveys at existing industrial, manufacturing, and commercial facilities.
Perform code analyses and develop reports. - Perform hazardous analysis, including hazardous materials reviews, chemical classifications, review client requirements, and implement applicable codes on design solutions.
- Present findings and recommendations to client stakeholders
- Develop fire protection basis of design, specifications, conceptual designs and systems detail designs, prepare preliminary including calculations, and prepare Basis of Design reports
- Present design solutions, findings and/or recommendations to clients and agency officials.
- Collaborate with design and construction project teams to develop cost-effective solutions.
- Support permitting and agency meetings/negotiations
- Prepare requests for proposals, review contractor bids and make recommendations for award.
- Provide construction phase services, including site visits and observation reports
- Review contractor submittals, respond to RFIs, and review contractor close-out documents.
- Provide input and recommendations for improving Company processes, procedures and service delivery.
- Represent the Company reputation and brand by conducting oneself with the utmost professionalism and integrity in all job duties.
- Mentor other Company engineers and staff on fire protection engineering principles and design approaches.
Business Development (approx. 10% of time)
- Business development is a very collaborative effort at Carine. All senior staff participate in the sales process.
- Collaborate with Carine business development team on target markets and clients
- Develop project opportunities with new and existing clients, prepare proposals and negotiate award.
- Track opportunities in Company CRM system.
Requirements
Qualifications & Education
Education:
o BS Degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other approved engineering field from an accredited program.
o Continuing education in the fire protection field. Candidate must furnish
Licensure: Fire Protection Professional Engineering (PE) license required
Experience:
o A minimum of 8 to 10 years of fire protection engineering and design experience, with increasing responsibilities working under the direction of a registered fire protection engineer.
o Experience must include direct work on construction projects. Experience working for a fire protection trade contractor is a plus.
o Design team management and/or project management experience in the construction industry.
o Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, hydraulic calculation tools, and fire modeling software is a plus
o Strong understanding of Building and Fire Code and NFPA standards, especially NFPA 13, 14, 20, 25 and 72.
o Self-motivated and organized with good time management skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; cooperative, yet assertive; self-disciplined. Strong track record of leading projects within scope, time and budget constraints.
Job Type: Full-time, in-office or remote work arrangements may be considered.
Salary: $140,000 - $180,000 annually
