Description
Taylor Studios is an exhibit design and fabrication firm producing exhibits and experiences within museums, nature centers, libraries, visitor centers, universities, and all sorts of other facilities across the country. We teach content through interpretation and storytelling, and daily strive to inspire others through our designs.
We are seeking an experienced, full time Exhibit Designer to join our creative, artistic, and fun group of hard-working designers. Ideal candidate portfolios will demonstrate coherence between content/story and design, flexibility to work in a variety of styles for different audiences, the ability to lead a project from concept through completion, and overall general creativity.
Exhibit Designers at Taylor Studios collaborate closely with Graphic Designers, Interpretive Planners, Construction Detailers, Project Managers, and Fabrication Specialists. They are responsible for the overall vision and layout of each exhibit.
Duties include:
Leading design workshops with clients and internal brainstorms
Making aesthetic choices about paint colors, finishes, flooring, hardware, lighting etc.
Modeling exhibits in Vectorworks
Creating conceptual and final renderings
Producing elevations, floor plans, and other reference documents
Maintaining the project budget with Project Managers, and working with Estimating to ensure exhibits can be completed within budget and on time
Check ins with fabrication for problem solving and guidance
Most Taylor Studios projects begin with an onsite meeting with clients and so travel is required 2-5 weeks each year.
Requirements
Preferred skills:
Proficiency in Vectorworks, or expert knowledge of comparable programs such as SketchUp, AutoCAD etc.
Lighting design and specification
Ability to read, modify, and create basic construction documents
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop
Basic understanding of standard construction materials and methods
Traditional drawing skills, proficiency in digital drawing with programs such as Procreate
Comfort with public speaking, leading, and working collaboratively
General curiosity about varied topics and love of learning
Additional skills in graphic design, copywriting, interpretation, and/or 3D modeling are a plus
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in a similar role at another design firm or as in-house exhibit design for an individual institution.

This is a full time, salaried position with benefits including a 401(k), health insurance, and many opportunities for creative cross training. This is not a fully remote position but does have a flexible schedule that only requires onsite work three days per week. Pay is commensurate with experience and auxiliary skills.
