We are expanding our technical team to support growing demand for graphene-enhanced concrete solutions, materials testing, and field performance evaluation.
Position Overview
The Concrete Technologist at Universal Matter Inc. plays a key role in supporting the testing, validation, and field performance monitoring of concrete mixes enhanced with Universal Matter graphene products. This position includes hands-on laboratory work, field sampling, QA/QC testing, and data reporting to help optimize mix designs and demonstrate product performance to clients and partners.
This role supports R&D, technical services, and commercial teams as they develop and scale next generation concrete materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Laboratory Testing & Analysis
Assist with mix design development, performance optimization, and material characterization. - Prepare and test concrete batches, materials and additives– cement, sand, aggregates, admixtures, according to ASTM/CSA standards.
- Perform various performance testing of graphene-enhanced concrete including but not limited to- fresh properties (slump, air, temperature. weight, density), sample casting, demolding and curing, compressive strength tests and other mechanical evaluations, durability (shrinkage, RCPT, Bulk resistivity).
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe laboratory facilities and equipment.
Quality Control & Technical Compliance
- Ensure testing follows ASTM, CSA, ACI, MTO, and DOT standards as applicable.
- Verify equipment calibration and document quality assurance procedures.
- Identify and report non-conformities or unusual material behavior.
Documentation, Reporting & Data Management
- Prepare technical reports and data summaries for internal use and customer deliverables.
- Maintain detailed logs of sample history, batch details, and testing conditions.
- Collaborate with R&D scientists and commercialization teams by providing clear, well documented results.
Field Testing & Trials Support
- Conduct on-site sampling and testing of concrete mixes incorporating Universal Matter additives.
- Support field demonstrations, batching trials, and customer pilot pours.
- Document mix behavior, placement characteristics, finishing, and early-age performance.
- Ensure accurate collection and labeling of test specimens for transport to the lab.
Product & Customer Support
- Assist with training partners, contractors, and ready-mix producers on handling and usage of Universal Matter products.
- Participate in troubleshooting and performance investigations at customer sites.
- Provide field feedback to help refine product instructions and best-practice guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Technical diploma in Construction Materials, Civil Technology, or similar preferred.
- Experience with ASTM/CSA concrete testing procedures and certification processes.
- ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I or equivalent certification (or ability to obtain within 3 months).
- Ability to lift 50–75 lbs and work on active construction and trial sites.
- Strong data recording, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with concrete QC/QA, ready-mix operations, or materials testing laboratories.
- Familiarity with advanced concrete technologies (e.g., additives, admixtures, SCMs, nanomaterials).
- Additional certifications (ACI Strength Testing, Aggregate Testing, CSA certifications).
- Experience working with R&D or product development teams.
Work Environment
- Combination of laboratory work, field testing, and customer site visits.
- Occasional travel for demos, trials, and partner support.
- Exposure to construction environments, weather, machinery, and materials handling.
