Description
The Village of Bartlett is seeking a knowledgeable and professional Code Enforcement Officer to perform field inspections and ensure compliance with applicable zoning, building, municipal, sign, and landscape codes. This position plays a key role in maintaining community standards and supporting safe and healthy environments.
Reporting to the Building Official, the Code Enforcement Officer conducts inspections of residential and commercial properties and works closely with residents, contractors, and business owners to achieve compliance.
Responsibilities include conducting field inspections of residential, commercial and vacant properties, ensuring compliance with zoning, building, property maintenance, sign and landscape regulations, issuing notices of violation and performing inspections, processing and issuing permits, preparing correspondence, including violation notices and reports, maintaining accurate inspection records and enforcement documentation, and preparing for and attending local adjudication or court. This position involves both office and field work, including outdoor inspections in varying weather conditions. The role requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.

The current starting wage is $58,669+ depending on qualifications.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two (2) years of municipal building or code enforcement experience. Associate’s degree or equivalent coursework in urban planning, building construction, construction management, or a related field preferred. Must possess knowledge of municipal zoning and building codes, inspection techniques and construction methods, knowledge of applicable Village, State, and Federal regulations, strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (MUNIS experience preferred) and the ability to work independently and maintain positive working relationships. Must have a valid driver’s license; ICC/AACE Property Maintenance Certification preferred.
