Description
The Village of Oak Brook's Development Services Department is hiring for the position of Code Enforcement Officer (part-time position).
Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the part-time Code Enforcement Inspector ensures public health, safety, and welfare by enforcing local laws, building codes, zoning, and ordinances through property inspections, investigating complaints, issuing citations, educating citizens, and preparing reports, protecting communities from hazards. This position is public facing, with support also being provided to the Development Services Department staff in providing information and assistance to residents, contractors, and other employees.
The successful candidate will have sound and thorough knowledge of Village codes and ordinances in addition to knowledge of principles and practices of building construction. Knowledge of building, plumbing, mechanical, gas, and electrical codes is required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in relevant fields (public admin, construction, etc.) is preferred and ICC (International Code Council) certification a bonus. Skills should include attention to detail, problem solving, and excellent communication.

Inspections: Patrol and inspect residential, commercial, and public properties for violations.
Investigations: Respond to citizen concerns and investigate potential breaches of code.
Enforcement: Issue warnings, correction notices, citations, and stop-work orders.
Documentation: Maintain detailed records and prepare reports for court if needed.
Education: Inform property owners and the public about local ordinances and compliance.
